Marion- Robert Joe “Bob” Carter, age 74, of Marion, passed away at 3:00am on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Robert was born in Marion on October 23, 1946, the son of Pete and Esther (Boester) Carter. He married Janet Green at the Marion First Baptist Church on June 11, 1966. She survives.

Mr. Carter was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Goreville Masonic Hall. Prior to his retirement, he had worked thirty years as a substation electrician for CIPS. He enjoyed restoring old cars as a hobby. More than anything, he loved his family. He will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife- Janet Carter of Marion

Two sons and daughter-in-laws- Brad and Amy Carter

     Brandon and Donna Carter

Brother- Bill and Carol Carter

Niece- Amy and Adam Marlow

Nephew- Kent and Kimberly Carter

Four Grandchildren- Colton, Taylor, Austin, and Colby

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister- Julie Hill.

As per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, April 5, 2021 at the Zion United Church of Christ in Marion with Pastor John Holst officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 12-2pm on Monday at the church. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with final arrangements.
