Maxine Serati, 94, of Lenexa, Kansas, formerly of Herrin, passed away the evening of Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Maxine was born on July 18, 1926 in Herrin, a daughter of William R. and Ella Mae (Ross) Engler. She married Steve Serati in 1969 and he preceded her in death on April 11, 1989.

Maxine had worked at Smoler’s and Allen’s before becoming a full-time homemaker. She devoted all her time to her church and family. She was a faithful member of the First Pentecostal Church in Herrin and most recently a member of The Life Church of Kansas City, Missouri. She taught Sunday school for many decades.

Survivors include her son, Stephen Barrett and wife Lori of Lenexa, Kansas; daughter, Rae Wolaver of Herrin; grandchildren, David Barrett, Kelsey Wiebe, Trey Wheeler of Kansas City Metro Area, Daniel Barrett of Austin, Texas, Jarrett Wolaver of Herrin; great grandchildren, Adalynn Wiebe and Anduin Wheeler of Kansas.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Steve Serati and grandson, John Barrett.

Private funeral services will be held at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 with Reverend Michael Tetmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery.
