Marion- Mary Evelyn Newman, 100 years of age, passed away peacefully at 6:07pm on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Mary was born in Marion on October 11, 1919, the daughter of Guy Nelson and Nettie (Shaw) Moore. She married Perry L. Newman in Jackson, Missouri on November 16, 1940. Together, they shared fifty-two years of a blessed married life, until his passing on May 11, 1992.

A graduate of Marion Grade School and then Marion High School, Mary furthered her education at Lockyear’s Business College. She had worked at the Williamson County Courthouse for several years and later retired from Commercial State Life Insurance Company. 

Mary was a member of the Marion Third Baptist Church. She was also a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hearts Helping Hearts, and Senior Circle.

Survivors include her daughter- Judith K. “Judy” Blumenstock of Marion

Granddaughter- Beth Blumenstock of Marion

Grandson- Brad and Lori Blumenstock of Arlington, Tennessee

Three Great Grandchildren- Tristin Blumenstock of Marion

     Ava and Grant Blumenstock of Arlington, Tennessee

Brother-in-law- Joe Newman of Mount Vernon

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother- Vernell Shaw Moore, and son-in-law- John L. Blumenstock.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Ron Cremeens officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. A time of visitation will be held from 12-2pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.

For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Marion Third Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home; 800 N Market Street; Marion, IL 62959.
