James Leland Klope, age 87, of Creal Springs, passed from this Earth to be with his Savior and Lord on July 23, 2020 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.

James was born June 10, 1933 to the late Levi and Maude (Beasley) Klope in rural Williamson County. James worked for Karmac, Delta and Amax Coal Company for over 40 years as a Civil Engineer and was a Charter Member, Trustee and Youth Sunday School teacher at Walnut Hill Baptist Church for many years. His hobbies included hunting, gardening, working cattle and spending time with his family. After retirement, James enjoyed selling vegetables out of his garden at his home while visiting with those who came by.

James is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeanette Klope; a daughter, LeeAnne (Terry) Wood of Junction, IL and a son, Michael Klope of Mt. Vernon, IL; 3 grandchildren, Brad Wood of Junction, Tim (Courtney) Wood of Shawneetown, IL and Katie (Matt) Martin also of Shawneetown; 5 great-grandchildren, Austin Wood, James and Jude Wood and Bailee and Logan Martin; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Klope Treat; and an infant daughter, Nancy Lynn.

Funeral services will be held at Walnut Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Crab Orchard on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Keith Owens and Reverend Jerry Schell officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.

Visitation will be held at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion on Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again at Walnut Hill Freewill Baptist Church on Sunday, July 26, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, social distancing is advised and the wearing of masks is encouraged.

For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Walnut Hill Freewill Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
