Gypsy J.  McGowan, 87, of Marion, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 12:57 pm at her home in Marion.

Gypsy was born November 12, 1932 in Creal Springs the daughter of Roy Lee and Helen (Willard) Allen.  She married Eugene McGowan on August 7, 1951 at Cana Church and together they have shared over 67 years of marriage until his death on March 3, 2019.

She was a lifetime member of Mt. Moriah General Baptist Church and later in life attended Sunday School at Second Baptist Church in Marion.

Survivors include her;

Daughter – Cheryl Ann Rister (Ivan) of Harrisburg

Daughter – Eugina Axe of Goreville

Three grandchildren;

 Pamela Sue Rister of Morganfield, Kentucky

 Savannah Jeralds (Bert) of Goreville

 Tiffany Rinne (Dane) of St. Louis, Missouri

Four great grandchildren;

 Kren Lee Rister

 Karis Monique Taborn

 Kean Tyrone Taborn

Braiden Michael Connor

Many nieces and nephews

Two great grand fur babies;

 “Princess Leia” and “Otis”

Preceded by her Parents, husband – Eugene McGowan, son – Michael Allen McGowan, three grandchildren – Ivan Rister, Jr., Timara Nichole Rister, Nicholas Shawn Rister, and great grand fur baby “Fern Gulley”.

Graveside services will be Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 2 pm at Egyptian Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Willard officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, social distancing and the wearing of masks will be required.

For those who prefer memorials may be made to Mt. Moriah General Baptist Church.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
