I’m a member of the Johnston City class of 1964. Leon was with us until high school. Over the past few years, he was able to join us for our reunion, and weekly lunch get togethers. We are saddened by his death, and will miss him.

Long time friend. I was one week older than Leon. I remember his family with much appreciation. His Dad helped coach our Little League team. I believe his joy was serving in ministry to many people. Upon our contact in recent years I was appalled at his selfless dedication to serving people. I will always remember his love for God. Many thanks for his friendship.

I am still at a loss. I cannot believe that you are gone. I still remember all the great times we had as father and son. Anyone can become a father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad. I love you, and I miss you. Rest in Peace Dad.

He would shake his head and ask us what we were crying about. His goal was completed. He is with Jesus now. He can hear again! And I guarantee he is talking the ears off of Jesus! Say hello to my dad! I love you and will greatly miss our talks! You inspired me to be more like you!

What a loss! I have known Leon for many years. Good memories of staying at their house with his sister Irene. May God bless his family as they go through this time of grieving knowing that he is in the arms of God. What a great believer he was in sharing the gospel wherever he was in a soft spoken voice. Blessings to all.

Now that I have had time to reflect, I would like to tell you about the Harry Leon Hughes that I knew. First of all I have to say that he was the most humble man. He never, and I mean never met a stranger. Everyone he met for the first time would be greeted with a warm hug. He
Loved the Lord. Anyone whoever came in contact with him knew that right off the bat. He traveled all over the country doing God’s work. He touched the lives of so many people, yet he was so soft spoken. He loved his family so much, especially his three kids Stanley, Michelle, and Brian. No matter what we ever did, he always showed us unconditional love. Even though he had just met his granddaughter Mariah, and her Husband Derek and his seven Great grandkids Selena, Mariah, Darrel, Jason, Zoey, Adelynn, and McKenna three years ago he was a proud grandpa. Although he has joined his Parents Harry, and Jeanette, and his Brother Richard, and his Sister Phyllis in Heaven, he has left behind his Sister Irene, and his Brother Keith whom he loved very much. He loved his Neices, and Nephews Buddy, Cindy, Jim, Zina, John Mark, Lonnie, Angie, Julie, Jennie, John, and Teresa. He also loved all of his Cousins witch are too many to name. He was an outstanding bowler as well as an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. So much so that he named me after his favorite player Stan the Man Musual. He retired from Wal-Mart in 2008 after 10 years of service. I have said this once, and I will say it again anyone can become a Father, but it takes a special Man to be a Dad. I Love You Dad, and I Miss You!!! Rest In Peace Dad!!!!
