Mary L. Hartwell

Herrin- MARY L. HARTWELL, age 87, of Herrin, passed away at 7:57am on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Mary was born in Herrin on May 1, 1928, the daughter of Charles P. and Antonietta (Gualdoni) Calcaterra. She married William D. Hartwell in Herrin on March 10, 1956. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1960.

Mrs. Hartwell was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin as well as the Daughters of Isabella. Prior to her retirement, Mary worked as a sales clerk at Hechts Clothing Store in Carbondale.

Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law-

William and Terri Hartwell of St. Louis, MO

Robert and Shelia Hartwell of St. Louis, MO

Five Grandchildren- Taylor Hartwell of St. Louis, MO

Christian Hartwell of Fairfield, Iowa

Audra Hartwell of St. Louis, MO

Melissa and Lucas Kadar of San Diego, CA

Hannah Hartwell of St. Louis, MO

One Great Granddaughter- Phoebe Kadar of San Diego, CA

Three nieces- Paula and Bob Danby of Paducah, KY

Janet and Steve Boaz of Paducah, KY

Lisa and Bert Lybrand of Portland, OR

One nephew- Mark and Nikki Allen of Las Vegas, NV

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers- Robert, Charles, William and Joseph Calcaterra, and three sisters- Pauline Stone, Lena Archione, and Rosetta Calcaterra.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.

For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel- School Capital Campaign Fund. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S. 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.

    Mary will be remembered as a warm, pleasant and caring person. She will be missed by many. She loved her Church and her friends. Her sons are a tribute to her parenting. We both have memories of her.
