Herrin- Charles Wayne “Chuck” Shahadey, age, 74, died at his home in Herrin, IL Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 at 8:03 a.m. with his loving family at his side.

He was born Nov. 3, 1941 in Danville, IL to Charles and Dorothy (Schaffer) Shahadey.

He married Janice Kay McCormack, June 12, 1964 at Herrin First Christian Church. They shared 52 years together.

Chuck worked for 10 years as a draftsman with Olin-Mathieson Corporation. He ran Chuck’s Drive Inn on North Park in Herrin. He and his wife purchased Pulley’s Restaurant in Marion, and later after selling Pulley’s, the couple opened Chuck’s Barbeque in Herrin on South Park Avenue in 2001. They sold Chuck’s in 2012 and retired.

He was a 1959 graduate of Herrin High School. He was a veteran of the US Army and served from 1959 to 1961. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a past member of the Marion and Herrin Chambers of Commerce, past 25-year member of the Marion and Herrin Elks, an original investor at Kokopelli Golf Club and Estates.

He was honored to serve Pulley’s Barbeque to the entire traveling campaign staff of President George W. Bush in 2000 and hand delivered the meal on board his plane at the Williamson County Airport.

Chuck was a man of measure who was devoted to his family, his wife, daughters and grandchildren and his friends. He was a private man dedicated to his businesses and to his employees.

He is survived by his wife, Janice of Herrin, two daughters and one son in law, Wendey Shahadey Norton, The Woodlands, TX and Dr. Stephen and Tracey Shahadey Mills, Carterville, five grandchildren, Grant Stephen Mills, Carbondale, Shea Leigh Mills, Nashville, TN and Brockton Craig Mills, Carterville, Charlee Kay Norton and Kaylee Shahadey Norton, TheWoodlands, TX, sister in law, Brenda Lence, Herrin, brother in -law, Marshall McCormack (Lydia) , Dallas, TX, several nieces, nephews and cousins and his very special and dearest pal, his dog, Zoee and his newest dog, Chloee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Pastor Jason McKinnies officiating. Military honors will follow, presented by the Herrin American Legion and VFW Posts, with assistance from the National Guard. A time of visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Herrin Animal Control Rescue Facility with checks made to City of Herrin/Animal Control or the charity of the donor’s choice.
