William E. Leeper

Herrin- William E. Leeper, age 83, of Herrin, passed away at 6:32am on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Herrin Hospital.

William was born in Williamson County on August 13, 1931, the son of Isaac and Leona (Chumley) Leeper. He married Rubie Tow in Herrin on April 5, 1963. She survives in Herrin.

Mr. Leeper retired from the GTE Telephone Company where he had worked as a cable maintenance technician. William served in the United States Air Force for thirteen years and the Army National Guard for ten years, retiring as an E7.

Survivors include his loving wife- Rubie Leeper of Herrin

Daughter- Cheryl and Tom Cundiff of Herrin

Daughter- Crystal Wade of Herrin

Son- Randall Leeper of Herrin

Four grandchildren- Ashley and D.J. Rose of DuQuoin

Bobby Joe Wade of Herrin

Matthew Cundiff of Herrin

James Cundiff of Herrin

Brother- Floyd Vernon Leeper of Carterville

Sister- Loretta Cox of Hendersonville, TN

Many nieces, nephews, and cousins

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers- Alvie, Francis, Don, Harold, and Carl Leeper, and one sister- Cleda Shemwell.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Masonic services will be held at 1:30pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery with military honors provided by Herrin Military Ceremonial Team comprised of Freeman Spur American Legion, Herrin American Legion, and Herrin VFW Post. Assistance will be provided by the National Guard Flag Honor Detail. Visitation will be held from noon to 1:30pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.

For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.
