Herrin- Linda Lou McGuire, 61, of Herrin, passed away at 8:50 AM, Sunday, February 22, 2015 at her home with her family by her side.

Linda was born on June 9, 1953 in Herrin to Ralph Kenneth and Blanche “Brownie” (Brown) Eckols. She was protestant faith. She received a degree in respiratory therapy and worked at Marion Memorial Hospital and Memorial Hospital of Carbondale before beginning a 28 year career at the Marion VA Medical Center. She retired on her birthday last year.

In her spare time she enjoyed playing and watching tennis. She most enjoyed Andre Agassi and Roger Federer. She also enjoyed time spent working in her yard and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother- Kenneth Eckols and sister Patti Eckols and a special nephew- Jason Cain.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Herrin City Cemetery. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the graveside. Funeral arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.

    I am saddened with the news of Linda’s passing. Linda and I were very close in my early 20′s. She was instrumental in pushing me to become who I am today. My deepest condolences to Linda’s sisters and family and her best friend Gerry O’Brien.
