Herrin- Bessie Walker, age 95, of Herrin, passed away at 8:02pm on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Herrin Hospital.
Bessie was born in Kentucky on January 6, 1920, the daughter of Louis and Omie (Vincent) Owens. She married Orval Lee Walker in Carbondale on February 21, 1936. He preceded her in death in August of 1966.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include-
Son- Henry and Tillie Walker of Murphysboro
Daughter- Marilyn Gibbons of Herrin
Numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren
Brother and Sister-in-law- Lloyd and Fern Owens of Lincoln
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Larry Joe Walker, Daughter- Letha Mae Walker, Son- Loren “Tobie” Walker, Daughter- Darlene Smith, Son- Orval Walker, Jr., Son- Ronald Walker, four brothers, and four sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Terry Griffith officiating . Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
