Herrin- Helen Lynn Hays, age 63, of Herrin, passed away at 3:00am on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Herrin Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Helen was born in Herrin on February 7, 1951, the daughter of Bill J. and Geraldine (Berry) Hays. After graduating from Herrin High School in 1969, she studied journalism at Columbia University, where she served as editor of the campus newspaper.

Survivors include her mother- Geraldine Hays of Herrin

Brother- John Riley Hays of Cape Girardeau, MO

Nephew- David (Carla) Hays of Herrin

Nephew- Max Hays of Cape Girardeau, MO

Niece- Chloe Hays of Cape Girardeau

Great Nephew- Nick Hays of Herrin

Special Cousin- Jim (Mona) Owsley of Herrin

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother- James Okley “J.O.” Hays.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the cemetery. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with arrangements.
