Marion – F. Eugene “Gene” Vaughn, 91, of Marion passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 1:20 pm at Rosewood Care Center.

Mr. Vaughn was born June 8, 1923 in Marion the son of Lloyd Franklin and Ethel Elvira (Smoot) Vaughn. He married Ruby Maxine Guymon on May 27, 1950 in Salem and together they shared over 54 years of marriage until her death on February 4, 2005.

Mr. Vaughn was the oldest charter member of the Parrish Park Baptist Church. He was an associate professor at Southern Illinois University, where he taught accounting.

Survivors include his son- Ron E. and wife Jane Vaughn of Marion
Daughter- JoEllen and husband Jim Anderson of Caseyville
Five Grandchildren- Amanda and Blake Alan Vaughn
Matt, Pat, and Josh Anderson
Four Great Grandchildren- Ruby, Neva, and Max Anderson and Kora Vaughn
Sister-In-Law- Geraldine Vaughn of Marion
Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law- Ken and JoNell Cannon of Mt Vernon
Niece- Debbie Vaughn Davis-Murrie of Murphysboro

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruby, and his brother- Robert Vaughn.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Tony Foeller officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held from 11am-2pm on Sunday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.

    I’m sorry for your loss. Mr. Vaughn was my accounting instructor at VTI. He was usually tough but fair. Since we both lived in Marion, I would occasionally get a ride to school with him if my car or motorcycle wasn’t running.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

    I was on of Mr. Vaughn’s many students at VTI. Shortly after I started in 1965 we discovered that my second cousin was his good friend Lee Lavender.

    Thanks to Mr. Vaughn’s training I spent 34 years working in Accounts Payable at SIU and retired from there.

    I reconnected with Mr. Vaughn when he was in Parkway Manor for a short time. Of course, he didn’t remember me from among all his students but he did remember Lee and we talked a little about their time as friends.

    I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. May all your memories be happy ones.
