Clydell Chamness, 86, of Marion went to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 5:45 p.m. at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Clydell was born February 9, 1927 in Spillertown to Clyde and Eva (Jackson) Chamness. He married Phyllis Marks on November 25, 1945 in Marion. This year they would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.

Clydell was born and raised on a farm in Spillertown with his seven siblings. Throughout his life he enjoyed raising and racing horses. He worked at Barbara Kay Coal Mine from opening day until the day it closed its doors. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Kentucky Wildcat fan. Clydell and his family bowled together at Marion Bowl for over 25 years. Clydell was a member of Scottsboro Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school secretary. Out of all the accomplishments in his life he was most proud of his family. He took great pride in his four boys, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. It was known around Marion that he never spoiled his grandchildren he just gave them everything they wanted. Clydell will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Clydell is survived by his wife, Phyllis Chamness of Marion. Four sons, Mike Chamness and wife Sue of Pittsburg, Steve Chamness and wife Carol of Creal Springs, Jeff Chamness of Marion and Greg Chamness and wife Michelle of Pittsburg. Grandchildren, Shawn Norman of Marion, Paul Chamness of Creal Springs, Jason Chamness and wife Angela of Silverdale Washington, Janel Chamness of Marion, Kasie Ham and husband Ian of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jessica Hill and husband Ross of Johnston City. Eight great grandchildren. Sister, Thelma Chamness of Marion. Brother Robert Chamness and wife Linda of Spillertown and several nieces and nephews.

Clydell was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Paul and Hazel Marks. One brother, Lee Chamness. Four sisters, Bessie Groves, Laura Parks, Betty Foster and Margie Chamness, Daughter-in-law, Jennifer Chamness and one grandson, Timothy Chamness.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Mike Hood and Rev. Ivan Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
