John H. Gray
John Howard Gray, age 91, formerly of Marion, died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, May 26th, 2001, at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Mt. Morris, Illinois. Private burial was in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy, Illinois. Memorials for Mr. Gray may be sent to: Pinecrest Manor, Wing 4, 414 South Wesley Avenue, Mt. Morris, IL, 61054.
Mr. Gray was born February 10, 1910 in Simpson, IL, the son of William E. & Lula P. (Whiteside) Gray. They preceded him in death. He married Dorothy Hazel Chamness on July 13, 1931. They were married 69 years. John taught school for 7 years. He retired in 1973 after 32 years at the Texaco Company in Lockport, Illinois. John & Dorothy spent 28 years in Naples, Florida. She died November 3, 2000. John returned to Mt. Morris, IL to Pinecrest Manor in November, 2000.
John�s survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Edward R. & Ruth Ann Gray; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley A. & Dennis L. Hoffmeister; four grandchildren, Kathy Gray-Abers, Brian E. Gray, Kimberly Beattie, and Dean Hoffmeister; three great-grandchildren, Courtney Cassens, MacKenzie Bettie, and Hanna Jo Abers; and four sisters-in-law, Ruby Gray, Leota Phemister, Golda Matthews and Evelyn Chamness.
A memorial service for John H. & Dorothy H. Gray will be held on August 25, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at the Third Baptist Church, 1102 E. Boulevard Street in Marion, Illinois.
