Jessie L. Wilkie
Herrin- Jessie L. Wilkie, 92, of Herrin, passed away at 1:36 PM, Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Hillview Healthcare Center in Vienna.
Jessie was born on New Years Day 1918 in Benton to Joe Harris & Ethel (Easley) Neal. She married Robert A. Wilkie, II in Benton. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1992.
Jessie formerly worked at a laundromat in Benton and then at a curtain factory in Chicago, but worked most of her life as a homemaker and cared for her family. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and was a member of Whiteash Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include-
Son- Robert A. Wilkie, III of Herrin
Son- Frank Wilkie of Steelville
Daughter- Patricia Beasley of Texas
Eight Grandchildren
Many Great Grandchildren
Sister- Joanne Hankins of Benton
Numerous nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings- Dorothy West, Norma Montoya, Evelyn Arrow, Leon Kirk and Margaret Kearney.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Herrin City Cemetery. Pastor Andy Lee will officiate. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the graveside. Graveside arrangements were entrusted to Johnson-Hughes Funeral Homes in Herrin.
Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 South 13th Street/ Herrin, Illinois 62948.
