Colonel Hughes was and is a great inspiration to me. He interviewed me upon my application to the Regular Army at Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1962. Later in Vietnam while Colonel Hughes was 12th Aviation Group Commander he inspected A Troop, 3/17 Air Cav which Served as Commander (Silver Spur 6) I still have my Corn Cob 6 pipe he gave me that day.
