Herrin - Michael Mrla, 85, died at 10:02 a. m. on Monday, May 07, 2001 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. Michael was born on August 20, 1915 in Flat River, MO to George & Katherine (Stomper) Mrla. He married Martha Raczyinski on New Years Eve, 1939 in St. Louis, MO. She survives of Herrin. Mr. Mrla was a retired electrician and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church as well as a World War II Army Veteran. SURVIVORS: Wife- Martha Mrla- Herrin Son & dtr in law- Michael & Jane Mrla- White Lake, MI Son & dtr in law- John & Susan Mrla- Allen, TX Grandchildren: Michael Mrla- Louisville, KY Jennifer & husband Steve Gray- Austin, TX Melissa Mrla- Wyoming, MI Matthew Mrla- College Station, TX His parents, three brothers, and four sisters preceded him in death. The mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 10, 2001 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. The prayer service will be recited at 6:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
