Crab Orchard- Opal Mae Hill, age 84, of Crab Orchard, went home to be with the Lord at 8:17pm on Friday, June 21, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Opal was born in Goreville on May 24, 1929, the daughter of James Samual and Ruby Lenore (Short) Baker. She married Joseph William Hill on December 2, 1946 in Marion. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1982.
Mrs. Hill was a homemaker and pastor’s wife after her husband was called into the ministry in 1961. He pastored several churches in Saline and Williamson Associations where she was always by his side.
Mrs. Hill loved taking part in missions work in her church and enjoyed doing volunteer work at the Crab Orchard Public Library for many years. She loved quilting and crafts but her main love on this earth was the Lord and her family. She provided care, support, and encouragement in everything and set an example of Christian values, not only for her family, but everyone she met, teaching them to love one another and to put God first in their life. She loved attending the Cana Baptist Church, where she was a member.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law- Lola and Dennis Morris of Crab Orchard; two sons and daughters-in-law- Jim and Linda Hill of Marion, Tim and Debbie Hill of Crab Orchard; daughter-in-law- Donna Hill of Marion; grandchildren- Denny and Mary Jane Morris, Tammy and Tommy Samples, Douglas Hill, Ross and Jessica Hill, Tyson Hill, Rachel Hill, Keri Jo and Josh Jaurez, Vicky and Danny Smith, Alex and Jake Mitchell; great grandchildren- Kage Waters, Mia Jo Waters, Ruby Waters, Neil Samples, Cheyenne Samples, Ivy Rose Samples, Tyler Hill, Zachory Hill, Jaycee Hill, Bryson Juarez, Amya Juarez, and Levi Hill; sister- Clarice Killman; brothers- Sammy and Jackie Baker; brother and sister-in-law- Ronnie and Norma Baker; sister-in-law- Carmen Issler; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son- Joel Hill; brother- Bob Baker; sisters- Agatha Tanner, Carolyn Johnson, and Rosetta Baker.
A celebration of Opal’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. John Howat and Rev. Mike Garrett officiating. Burial will follow at Indian Camp Cemetery in Dykersburg. Visitation will be held from 5-9pm on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
