Joyce was born on August 14, 1953 in Chester, a daughter of Robert and Doris (Aspley) Schroeder.  She previously worked as a nurse until her health no longer allowed her to.  Joyce was of the Catholic faith and loved knitting and spinning her own yarn.  She was an avid reader and in previous years enjoyed ornithology.

Survivors include her two sons, Chris (Tiffany) Surman of San Diego, California and Keith Surman of Marion; her brother, Robert (Deb) Schroeder of Steeleville; and her sister, Dr. Blythe (Roland Wildman) Schroeder, M.D. of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A graveside memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Chester on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Gene Wojcik officiating.  Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Joyce and I played together grew up together and attended nursing school together. I can still hear her laughter with some of the crazy times we had driving to school. Those times I will cherish forever.
