Herrin- Herman Louis Hawk Rancilio, 87, fortified by the sacrament of the Eucharist, went to be with his Lord and Savior at Parkway Manor in Marion, attended by his family at 12:52am on Saturday, December 24, 2005.
Herman was born in Herrin on August 29, 1918 to Luigi and Clotilda (Amici) Rancilio. He married Madeline Feleci on December 9, 1943 at Nashville Air Force Base in Nashville, TN. She survives in Herrin.
Mr. Rancilio was a 1st Lt. having served during World War II. He was the first employee at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion. For 33 years he was the Assistant Chief Business Services Manager at the VA Hospital. Later, he served as the Field Coordinator for Egyptian Area Agency on Aging in Carterville.
Herman was a member of the Herrin Senior Citizens, the Knights of Columbus, the Eagles and a charter member of the original Pigeon Inn. He was a member of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin.

Mr. Rancilio was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters- Rosa Rancilio, who died in infancy, and Maria Guerrini of Italy.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday December 27, 2005 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin with military rites performed by Marion’s American Legion Post 147 and VFW Post 1301. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Monday December 26, 2005 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with a prayer service being held at 6:00pm.
